Holy Monastery of Agios Nikolaos

The oldest monastery in Metsovo. In its basement, a handmade 1782 barrel and the cellar where the Imperator reds mature.

The Holy Monastery of Agios Nikolaos is among the oldest monasteries of Metsovo, its founding year unknown and its first written reference dating to the 13th century. In the katholikon, frescoes from 1700 survive. The Monastery is the place of repentance of the Holy Neomartyr Nicholas of Metsovo, to whom a chapel of 1800 is dedicated. As a precious treasure, the Monastery keeps the right hand of the Saint.

Finally, the Monastery is framed by its vineyards, which sit "climbing" the slopes, making the use of mechanical means almost impossible, so that they are cultivated exclusively by hand.
